Tacoma’s Making a Difference Foundation announced today that its BIPOC Farm Fresh HUB Program received a $35,000 grant from the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to assist the resource’s work to, according to a press release, expand production capacity, improve food distribution systems, and provide vital resources to farmers of color who seek to “build viable, community-centered businesses.”
“This generous award from the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation represents a powerful investment in equity and sustainability,” said Making a Difference Foundation founder and CEO Ahndrea Blue in the release. “Through this partnership, we are continuing to break down barriers for small farmers of color and ensuring that the food grown in our communities nourishes our communities.”
The hub’s work supports more than 20 local farmers of color through infrastructure, cooperative marketing, and technical assistance, and looks to help foster connections with food banks, community buyers, and regional consumers.
“GTCF’s commitment to equity and local food systems continues to inspire and uplift grassroots organizations like ours,” Blue continued in the release. “We are deeply grateful for their partnership and belief in the work we do.”
