The Making a Difference Foundation’s food bank, Eloise’s Cooking Pot, is launching a one-time emergency food-delivery service for families in King and Pierce counties who are unable to travel to their local food bank.
The announcement comes in response to rising food insecurity due to the recent federal government shutdown and, with it, the significant reduction of SNAP benefits on which roughly 500,000 Washington households rely.
“Our community is facing an unprecedented strain on food resources,” said Ahndrea Blue, Making a Difference Foundation’s president and CEO, in a press release. “We know many families are suddenly seeking help for the first time — and we want to ensure no one who cannot physically reach our onsite food bank is left behind. This one-time delivery service is our urgent response.”
The program will run through Nov. 30 and is available to households located within a 15-mile radius of Eloise’s Cooking Pot, which is located at 3543 E. Mckinley Ave. in Tacoma.
Deliveries will be made in partnership with Amazon and DoorDash to households in Tacoma, University Place, Parkland, Spanaway, Lakewood, Puyallup, Fife, Federal Way, Algona, and Pacific, and is available only to households who are not currently enrolled in the foundation’s weekly delivery routes.

“Your patience, compassion, and support mean so much as we strive to serve as many families as possible,” Blue said in the release. “Together, we will get through this.”
