WASHINGTON STATE — Eloise’s Cooking Pot, a food bank run by Ahndrea Blue, is stepping up to provide Thanksgiving meals for military families at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during the government shutdown.
“We have to make Thanksgiving dinner happen,” said Blue, who also leads the Making a Difference Foundation.
The food bank will host a grocery giveaway for 800 JBLM families, helping them prepare their own holiday meals. Blue emphasized the importance of supporting those who serve the country, saying, “There is a huge need for the people who serve our country every day for food.”
Atienne Howard, a veteran and staff member at Eloise’s Cooking Pot, shared her excitement and frustration, recalling her own struggles as a soldier.
“We all eat the same, doesn’t matter where you are or where you come from,” said Howard. The food bank’s efforts are supported by community donations, including a young boy’s glass piggy bank containing $33.55.
“That’s just everything to me,” said Blue, touched by the gesture.
Despite overwhelming demand — lines stretching around the block — Blue remains hopeful thanks to continued support. Eloise’s Cooking Pot is also organizing an emergency food bank drive-thru at the Tacoma Dome on Wednesday, expecting a massive turnout similar to last week’s event.
The drive-thru will take place at Lot G, with parking opening at 7:30 a.m. and gates at 10 a.m.
